Larry Ray Trusty was born November 13, 1948, in Paris, Arkansas, to Victor Albert and Betty Edelda (Scrudder) Trusty. He died Thursday, July 28, 2016, on his 44th wedding anniversary in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 67 years. Larry was reared and educated in Tulsa, Oklahoma, graduating with the Union High School Class of 1967. He received his pilot license his junior year of high school. He served 6 years in the Oklahoma Air National Guard. He continued his education attending the Spartan School of Aeronautics. He was married July 28, 1972, to Gayla Bruce Trusty. Larry spent 30 years with American Airlines in Tulsa, retiring in 2008 as an inspector. After retiring he started his own small aircraft business at his home on Gundy’s airport. His was known for his honest and trustworthy work ethic and his many customers became his friends. He enjoyed going to Oshkosh, Sun n Fun and took every chance to fly. He would say his get away from a house full of girls was flying. He always told Gayla that he felt closer to God when he was among the clouds and did a lot of his praying up in the air. He was a devoted son, caring brother, loving husband, a gentle father, and a doting papa. Besides his love of God and family he was passionate about flying. He was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, Young Eagles, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and Vintage Aircraft Association. Larry was a faithful Christian and an active member of Owasso First Assembly of God. He loved his Monday morning community group fixing the things that needed to be repaired around the church, but mostly drinking coffee and bugging Donna Kerr. Most important to him was God, family, and especially joking around with his grandchildren. Once he learned to text “LOL,” it had a whole new meaning to his grandchildren… to his family it means “Lots of Love.”

I have known Larry through our flying and working on Aircraft. A really good man. We met each other at Harvey Young Airport in Tulsa, and it was a pleasure to be around Larry because he was so nice to me and everyone. He later was with American Airlines where I worked. Our birthdays’ were only one day apart but in different years. I know Larry loved his family, airplanes and church. So sorry for your loss. Please accept my condolences and prayers.

Our hearts are broken at the knowledge of Larry’s passing but know he is no longer suffering. Our thoughts and prayers are with Gayla, Amy, Kim, Victor, Edelda, and Helen and of course the grandchildren.
We were remembering Larry this past weekend and Paul talked about his love of Camaros and airplanes.
We wished we lived closer to you and were able to come to the service; however, with the care of Leora (who is now 100 years old), we just can’t make the trip. Know that our thoughts and hearts will be there. We love you! Paul, Delanie, Justin, Sarah and Leora Trusty.

What a blessed man…
A faithful wife, 2 adoring daughters and many grandchildren. What an awesome gift to have been able to share quiet times with The Lord in the clouds as a pilot! Meeting Jesus in person must’ve been a very familiar experience!
Our hearts go out to you, Gayla, Amy and Kim… Until you see him again, may God be your ever-present help and comforter!

Larry was one of the sweetest men we’ve ever known. He was blessed with the most wonderful wife and family and the sweetest parents of all time. May he rest in peace! He is now where we are all striving to go, but our hearts are with you during this most difficult of times. We mourn, but not “as those who have no hope” for we know where he is. Our prayers are with you, & we will be making a donation to the Gideons in his honor! Love you!
