Matthew Leigh Moody was born December 6, 1966, in Brevard County, Florida to Samuel Paul and Marie Agnita (Schulte) Moody. He passed from this life Thursday, May 25, 2017, in Grove, Oklahoma, at the age of 50 years. Matt was raised in Brevard County, Florida until he was 5 and then moved in 1972 to Fullerton, California. The family then moved in 1981 to Santa Maria, California. He graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in Santa Maria with the Class of 1985, as an avid athlete earning a full ride scholarship to college. He was married August 6, 2005, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas to Rebecca Spring (Yates) Moody. Matt spent most of his working life as an Outside Salesman with Mill Creek Lumber in Owasso, Oklahoma and Building Solutions of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Christmas Eve 2007 Matt and his friends were golfing Goat Hill and on hole 12 got a hole in one. Matt was so tickled he never seriously played golf again. My heartfelt conolences to his bride Rebecca, and his family. I was happy to reconnect with Matt after St. Joe’s, on Facebook. He always sounded so happy, so content in his life. That’s how I’ll remember him, at his Kickback Shack with Rebecca. May he rest in peace. God bless.

Good bye my friend. In the 15 years we knew each other, you taught me a lot about the building business and had my back the whole time. I taught you why it was ok to be a redneck. I will definately miss our late night phone conversations that included anything from NASCAR to me bitching about service to deep down life issues. Much Love Brother!

Matt we will miss you. I will never forget all those fun times together at the Kansas Speedway. I will always remember you sitting in that really tall chair around the campfire and until that one year when the chair finally broke. Lol. Until we meet again my friend.

— Peggy Strobel , Saturday – May 27, 2017
What a great uncle he was. My favorite memory of him was throughout the week long camping trip my family and I took with him and Aunt Rebecca in Oklahoma. Swimming in the lake, talking around the campfire, learning how to catch fireflies, catching all the fish in the lake and watching my dad getting mad while Uncle Matt making fun of him for not catching any. 😂😂 The whole week was a lot of fun. I wish we had more opportunities to visit him and go camping again. ☹️ We will really miss him.

I Love you Matt! You were not only my Brother, you were my Friend. I could call Matt at all hours of the day or night. Matt always answered my call. Matt listened to my ups and my downs. Yes, Matt had his opinions and sometimes they were hard to hear, but he was (mostly) always right. My Brother Matt had had a big heart with a generosity that would have surpassed anyone’s expectations. Matt would have given you the shirt off his back, all you had to do was ask. I want to give a big Thank You to BILL FORD for being a loyal friend to my Brother, because Bill knows exactly what I am talking about. Hey Bill – we can still talk to his spirit, and he will listen, but he can’t talk back! Message

Matt, you are the strong silent man. The days of High School being an outstanding athelete who achieved with Grace. Always kind and gentle….especially to us “Lil people” as you always called me. I laughed every time and said someday I would outgrow you😁 Those were special times, sweet dreams Matt🙏

Matt, you lived life like a NASCAR driver, always at full throttle. I wish you could have downshifted once in a while, cuz there is nothing wrong with making the race last a bit longer. I will miss you dearly. your Bro Phil.

I knew Matt in the 90’s when he worked on the sale counter at Buena Park Lumber. We were all much younger then..Seeing his picture on this memorial reminded me that his smile was the first thing you would notice about Matt. He was one of those happy-go-lucky guys who just rolled with whatever came his way. Rest peacefully my friend!
— Diane Tanner, Tuesday – May 30, 2017
Matt was a cherished friend of mine in grade school at St. Phillips and the Moody Family were long time close neighbors of ours in Fullerton. I think fondly of the time Matt and I spent on Little League teams, the class room, St. Phillips sports teams, or simply playing in the neighborhood. Matt will be missed a great deal! My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Moody family during this very difficult time.
