Joy Belle Postelwait was born August 4, 1931, in Drummond, Oklahoma, to Lester M. and Eva Louise Worthington Swart. She died Tuesday, September 26, 2017, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 86 years. Joy was educated in Drummond, Greenwood, and Lacy, before finishing in Enid, Oklahoma. She was married April 15, 1952, in Hays, Kansas, to Raymond Keith “Banjo” Postelwait. They had lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma, most of their life before moving to Collinsville, Oklahoma, in 1964. Joy spent much of her working life as a machinist with Hathaway in Tulsa. She was a longtime faithful member of Freedom Church in Owasso. She enjoyed a variety of pastimes including quilting and Swedish weave. Her sister, Judy DeMarcus, of Enid, brother and sister-in law, Lonnie and Flor Williams, of Collinsville, her dog “Bubby”, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother and step-father, Eva and L.A. “Willie” Williams, father, Lester Swart, husband, Banjo Postelwait, brother, Lester Swart, Jr., and three sisters, Gloria Dean Swart, Arline Hites, and Virginia Fair.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 6, 2017, at Freedom Church in Owasso with Pastor Andrew Rankin officiating. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso.
